Course Descriptions

Pistol Training

Basics of Pistol Shooting – This NRA course is intended to offer an understanding of pistol shooting to a complete novice. The secondary audience for this course is experienced shooters who are trying to become NRA certified instructors.

Prerequisite: NONE

Pistol Clinic – This half-day course is intended for shooters at every level, but the content is geared towards improving the fundamental shooting skills and the basics of defensive shooting for the beginner and non-beginner groups respectively

Defensive Pistol IThis course is intended to introduce a broad range of concepts of defensive shooting. The focus of this course is to provide the student with as much firearm manipulations as possible. This course will focus heavily on situational awareness, the perfection of the draw stroke, one-handed shooting, the importance of retention shooting and close-quarters shooting, stoppage reduction, keeping the gun green, and Target Transitions.

Prerequisite: Pistol Clinic or Equivalent 

 

Defensive Pistol II – The goal of this course is to continue education about the world of the defensive pistol. This course will cover a review of Defensive Pistol I, use of cover, switching to the off-hand, one-handed manipulations, moving off of the X, Trading up, and urban prone, MMA

Prerequisite: Defensive Pistol I

 

Defensive Pistol III – Compromised Positions – This full-day class will provide you with skills to win the fight when you are forced to engage from unorthodox firing positions. The training will include: Shooting on the run, From your back, Seated (non-vehicular), Side-lying while shooting in multiple directions, Use of small cover. This course requires a lot of running and groundwork.

Prerequisite: Defensive Pistol I and II

 

Defensive Pistol III – Low Light Considerations – This course will show the difficulties of fighting at night. We will speak on the importance of a quality light, the debate of handheld vs weapon-mounted lights, and the importance of light discipline. We will cover different ways to utilize a handheld light with a handgun and how these techniques fold into the techniques we already know about fighting with a handgun from DP1 and DP2.

Prerequisite: Defensive Pistol I and II

 

Defensive Pistol III – Vehicle-Based Incidents – In this half-day class, we will introduce you to Fighting (with and without guns) in and around vehicles, as well as when to get away from the “death box.”  You’ll learn avoidance strategies as well as worst-case options. The training will include: Carry considerations in your car, Exiting when you are the driver, Exiting when you are a passenger (front, back), How to be a defensive team player, Vehicle positioning. In this course, you will drive your car and engage targets from your vehicle alone and with a buddy.

Prerequisite: Defensive Pistol I and II

Small Team Ops –  This course will teach you how to Move, Communicate and Shoot as a small team sized 2-4 people. We will cover the aspects of cover fire, communication keywords, and 360-degree security. This course does not require a training partner, but it is highly recommended. 

Prerequisite: Defensive Pistol I and II, FC 1 and FC II 

Carbine Training

Carbine Clinic – This low-cost course will stress the fundamentals of the operation of a carbine. WL TAC instructors will provide input on fundamentals in a high repetition course of fire and dry fire. We will cover Safety, How the gun works, Shooters Platform, Recoil Control, Aiming, Trigger Control.

Prerequisite: NONE

 

Fighting Carbine I – The goal of this course is to provide an introduction to the world of “tactical” carbine shooting. We will cover Safety, Carries and Readies, How the gun works, Zero Theory, Carbine Configuration, Shooter’s Platform, Aiming, Trigger Control, Malfunctions, and Reloads. This course is for shooters that are new to the fighting carbine. – Close range retention shooting.

Prerequisite: Carbine Clinic

 

Fighting Carbine II – The goal of this course is to continue education about the world of the fighting carbine. This course will cover a review of Fighting Carbine I, Target Transitions, use of cover, switching to your support side, one-handed manipulations, and transition to pistol, MMA. 

Prerequisites: Fighting Carbine I

Fighting Carbine III – Vehicle-Based – In this half-day class, we will introduce you to Fighting (with and without guns) in and around vehicles, as well as when to get away from the “death box.”  You’ll learn avoidance strategies as well as worst-case options. Shotgun Training

Basics of Shotgun Shooting – This NRA course is intended to offer an understanding of shotgun shooting to a complete novice. The secondary audience for this course is experienced shooters who are trying to become NRA certified instructors.

Prerequisite: NONE

 

Defensive Shotgun I – The purpose of this course is to provide a BASIC understanding of how to effectively employ a shotgun (SG) as a defensive tool in and around the home. The target audience is people who intend to use a shotgun as a primary or secondary defensive tool. You will learn, scattergun manipulations, carries and readies, topping off, reloading, patterning, and malfunctions.

Prerequisite: NONE

 

Defensive Shotgun II – This course is designed to extend a shooter’s knowledge of fighting with a shotgun. This course will teach a shooter how to shoot a shotgun compressed, use of cover and, transition to pistol.

Lifesaving Training

Lifesaving I (Non-Firearm) – This course is designed to provide you with Basic Lifesaving (BLS) skills for self and buddy aid beyond the typical Boo Boo kit. You will learn how to: Evaluate a casualty, Control Massive Bleeding, Manage an obstructed airway, Intervene for respiratory trauma, Hands-only CPR (MICR), Prevent/Manage Hypothermia and Shock. We will also cover trauma kits and building a good IFAK. This class contains hands-on practical exercises using props and training partners. We will issue a training certificate and wallet card for 6 hours of BLS training.

Lifesaving II (Non-Firearm) – This course is a scenario heavy continuation of Lifesaving I, we will do a quick review of Lifesaving I, learn about needle decompressions, and then move into many trauma and medical emergency scenarios for the rest of the class.

Prerequisite: Lifesaving I

 

Tactical Combat Casualty Care – This course will discuss tactical considerations within lifesaving techniques. We will focus on scenarios based on casualty care under fire.

Prerequisite: Lifesaving I, Defensive Pistol II
