Radio Basics

January 31, 2026 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm MST

A practical, hands-on introduction to using affordable handheld radios for emergencies, disasters, neighborhood communication, and outdoor activities. Students learn how to safely and legally operate a Baofeng-style radio, understand basic radio terminology, and navigate common functions such as selecting frequencies, adjusting power levels, locking the keypad, and using repeaters. The course covers antenna options, programming channels, using simplex vs. repeater modes, and how to communicate clearly under stress using standard radio etiquette.
